South Inlet Park needs beach cleanup volunteers Saturday

Keeping Boca Raton’s beaches clean is a never-ending task and area residents are taking responsibility for getting it done.

Saturday, the U.S. will join more than 90 other countries for International Coastal Cleanup. It is a one-day mission focused on cleaning up the waters in and around our beaches.

Boca Raton has events scheduled for Spanish River Park, 3001 N. Ocean Blvd., and South Inlet Park, 1100 S. Ocean Blvd.

Thanks to a heavy preregistration, only South Inlet Park still has openings for volunteers.

The South Inlet Park event starts at 8 a.m. Saturday. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Eshleman Pavilion on the northeast side of the park. The event is managed by the South Florida Spearfishing Club.

Joe Rossok – the South Inlet Park coordinator, 561.667.2166 – said Thursday morning there was room for more volunteers.

Volunteers are asked to bring this signed form with them. Those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

According to Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, which is managing the Spanish River Park cleanup, the early registration for volunteers was overwhelming.

Written on the Center’s website: “Thank you all for your interest … we have completely filled up, and can not host any more participants!”

The Spanish River Park event begins at 8 a.m. and Susan Elliott is the coordinator (561.544.8606).
